What is
CoolPeel®?
CoolPeel® is a fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment that is a gentler take on the traditional CO2 laser peel. The treatment targets the superficial layer of the skin, delivering fractional laser energy without heating the skin. This treatment is performed with the Tetra CO2 laser developed by DEKA. The Tetra CO2 laser is the only one on the market that can deliver the CoolPeel® treatment.
Traditional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser resurfacing is well-known for its long downtime, which is its main disadvantage. Patients need to wait up to two weeks before being able to go out in public since this treatment leads to significant redness, swelling, oozing and crusting. Later on, the skin appears pink, and it may take up to a year for the treated skin to recover its natural hue.
The CoolPeel® treatment is different. This treatment has minimal downtime, with patients experiencing only sunburn-like redness for a few days. Full recovery usually takes place within a week, and most patients can resume their social activities immediately after treatment. In addition, this fractional ablative laser is suitable for most skin tones and types, while other lasers have greater limitations.
What does CoolPeel® treat?
CoolPeel® was designed to address a wide range of cosmetic concerns on the face, neck and chest. This versatile treatment can be used to correct age-related and other skin changes, such as:

How does
CoolPeel® work?
A CoolPeel® treatment is performed using the Tetra CO2 laser. This high-precision laser is the only laser that can deliver energy at the correct depth and speed to ablate the skin’s surface (epidermis) without heating the deeper layers of the skin (dermis). This results in superficial skin resurfacing with minimal downtime.
The Tetra CoolPeel® CO2 laser is a fractional ablative laser, which creates microchannels in the skin where the laser energy is delivered. This creates “islands” of ablated skin with untreated skin in between. The untreated skin helps speed up healing and further reduces recovery time.
Other benefits
of CoolPeel®
CoolPeel® is not your typical CO2 laser. It offers efficiency close to traditional CO2 lasers but with less discomfort and quicker recovery. And while there are now many alternatives to traditional CO2 lasers — like erbium, intense pulsed light (IPL), and pulsed-dye lasers — CoolPeel® is the only one that can deliver fractional ablative resurfacing with no downtime.
CO2 lasers have long been the gold standard of skin rejuvenation, helping visibly diminish the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots and sagging skin. They utilize heat to destroy dead and damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production deeper within the skin. The primary downside is that ablating the skin this way causes significant thermal damage and thus a long recovery period. And due to the aggressive nature of this treatment, it carries a risk of infection, scarring and hyperpigmentation.
Many advances have been made to improve the side effects of CO2 treatments, but ONLY the CoolPeel® can deliver a fractional ablative treatment without the extended downtime. There is minimal risk of hyperpigmentation, infection and scarring.
The treatment
Before your treatment, we will schedule a free consultation to see if you are a good candidate and explain what to expect from your procedure. You may need to discontinue acne medication, retinoids, abrasive skin care and tanning in the weeks or months before your treatment.
The treatment starts by cleansing your skin, placing safety glasses and applying a numbing cream. After 60 minutes, your provider will deliver the CoolPeel® treatment with a handheld device. You should not feel pain, only a warm sensation. The procedure takes about 30 minutes.
The results
Immediately after your procedure, your face will appear red and slightly swollen, like you have a mild sunburn. For this reason, we recommend that you do not schedule this treatment right before important social engagements. You will need to keep your skin clean with a mild cleanser and avoid direct sun exposure for at least a week, which is how long it takes for the skin to heal completely.
After a week, your skin will appear younger, healthier, smoother and brighter. For best results, patients typically require at least two treatments scheduled four to six weeks apart.
