What is
CoolSculpting® Elite?
CoolSculpting® Elite is the latest innovation in CoolSculpting® technology developed by Allergan Aesthetics. CoolSculpting® is a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction that uses Cryolipolysis™ to freeze fat cells and cause their controlled destruction. This treatment is designed to remove pockets of unwanted fat to sculpt or contour the body.
CoolSculpting® Elite is an updated version of Allergan’s original CoolSculpting® technology, with improved applicators that better fit the body’s natural curves. As a result, this version covers 18% more skin surface and removes up to 5% more unwanted fat in a single treatment.
Nearly any body area can be treated with this system, including the arms, abdomen, thighs and even chin. A single treatment can remove up to 25% of unwanted fat in the treatment area. The results from this treatment are considered permanent and will last as long as you maintain a healthy weight and a healthy lifestyle.
How does
CoolSculpting® Elite work?
Cryolipolysis — the method of fat removal utilized by CoolSculpting® Elite — was originally developed by dermatologists at Harvard Medical School in 2007, after clinical observations that fat tissue is more prone to injury from cold than surrounding tissues. This means that fat freezes at temperatures higher than the freezing point of water, or about 39.2°F.
The CoolSculpting® Elite device takes advantage of this fact to safely freeze fat cells without affecting surrounding skin, muscle, connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves. The device’s applicators use suction to gently lift the skin and deliver cooling to the underlying fat layers. Over one to three hours, the fat cells freeze and are later removed by the body’s lymphatic system.
After the initial inflammation subsides over several weeks, the treated area appears slimmer and more contoured.
What does CoolSculpting® Elite treat?
CoolSculpting® Elite treats stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. The device is not meant to replace an exercise and diet program. Instead, it is used to provide subtle body contouring to nine different areas of the body:
- Inner, outer and front thighs
- Upper arms
- The flank area
- Abdomen
- Back fat
- Bra fat (below the armpits)
- Banana rolls (under the buttocks)
- Under the jawline
- Under the chin
CoolSculpting® vs. CoolSculpting® Elite
CoolSculpting® and CoolSculpting® Elite use the same cooling technology to treat the same problem areas. However, CoolSculpting® Elite is the upgraded version now widely used in most centers.
The latter version has improved applicators that are C-shaped instead of U-shaped. This feature allows better gripping as they easily fit the body’s natural curves. Thanks to improved contact between the new applicators and the skin, CoolSculpting® Elite is more efficient, safer and requires less treatment time.
This newer version of CoolSculpting® also includes changes to the machine itself, with treatment now being more efficient and quieter. The newer version can treat multiple sites at once, which means less time and fewer visits are needed to achieve your desired results.
The treatment
For your CoolSculpting® Elite treatment, you will be seated comfortably in a quiet room. Your provider will place a gel pad and the applicator at the treatment site. They will then set the device to deliver controlled suction and cooling over several minutes to hours. You may feel some pulling and pinching during the process, which is normal and usually tolerable.
After your treatment is complete, your provider will utilize acoustic wave therapy to gently massage the treatment area to help break up any frozen tissue. This helps your body start the recovery and fat elimination process. This z-wave technology enhances the results of CoolSculpting® compared to the traditional method of massaging the area manually post-treatment.
We recommend bringing a book, music or some other form of entertainment to keep you occupied during your treatment.
The results
There is little to no downtime required with CoolSculpting® Elite. Some minor redness and soreness are expected immediately after treatment, which should resolve within a few weeks.
Once your body has cleared the dead fat cells and inflammation has subsided, you should notice a slimmer and more toned appearance, like a more defined jawline, slimmer waist, firmer thighs, etc. The removed fat cells are gone for good, so your results should last indefinitely as long as you continue to lead a healthy lifestyle.
