What Is A
Tear Trough?
The tear trough, also known as the nasojugal groove, is the area that begins under the inner corner of the eye and extends from the inner corner toward the cheekbone or palpebromalar groove. In our youth, this area between the eye, cheek, and nose is typically smooth and unnoticeable. However, as we age our skin loses elasticity and fatty tissue decreases, causing the tear trough to deepen. A deep tear trough can create a hollow underneath the eye, which causes or accentuates dark circles and puffiness that add years to the face. While often a sign of aging, younger patients can also have tear trough deformities that cause a harsh crease between the eye area and the midface.

What is
CoolTone™?
Traditionally, the only effective and long-term remedy for tear troughs was lower eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty. Luckily, there is a simple and non-surgical option for men and women who would like to improve tear troughs for a well-rested and youthful look. By utilizing injectables composed of hyaluronic acid filler to add volume to the eye trough, we can smooth the area to correct a sunken look and diminish the appearance of shadows and eye bags. Filler injections for tear trough treatment in our Tampa office involves an injector placing dermal filler, typically Restylane®, Juvederm® or Vollure, in the tear trough in a cosmetic procedure designed to correct volume loss and pigmentation issues in the under eye area.
