What is
Daxxify?
Daxxify is a form of botulinum toxin similar to Botox, used to temporarily improve the appearance of wrinkles and lines on the face by paralyzing the muscles that cause them. However, unlike other neurotoxins, Daxxify is clinically shown to last twice as long. It is injected by a healthcare professional and is FDA-approved for use on frown lines. Daxxify temporarily blocks nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, relaxes the muscles and reduces wrinkles.
What causes
facial aging?
Many different factors can cause signs of aging that will need to be reversed through treatments like Daxxify. Here are the leading causes of that decline, some of which you may not have been aware of:
- Natural Aging Process: The natural aging process is one of the primary causes of unwanted aesthetic conditions. As we become older, our skin loses collagen. Collagen is a naturally-generated protein that gives the skin its structure and strength. Unfortunately, we lose about 1% of our production of this substance every year after the age of 20. This leads to wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. Other vital proteins, like elastin, also begin to decline.
- UV Exposure: UV radiation from the sun will damage the skin, leading to age spots and wrinkles, not to mention it can cause the skin to become dry and rough, and can lead to uneven pigmentation.
- Genetics: Genetics also play a role in the aging of the face. Some people are more prone to wrinkles and other signs of aging due to their genetic makeup. Some people may have more wrinkles or age faster because of their genes.
- Lifestyle: Lifestyle choices can also contribute to the aging of the face. Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and a poor diet can all contribute to the aging of the skin. Smoking can cause wrinkles and lines around the mouth and make the skin dull and gray. Alcohol dehydrates the skin and can cause puffiness and wrinkles. A poor diet can lead to a lack of nutrients essential for healthy skin.
- Environment: Exposure to pollutants and other environmental toxins can damage the skin and contribute to the aging process. These toxins can cause inflammation and damage to the skin’s protective barrier, leading to dryness, irritation, and an increased risk of wrinkles and fine lines.
- Free Radicals: Another factor that contributes to the aging of the face is the presence of free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that are missing an electron and are highly reactive. They can cause damage to cells, including the cells in the skin.
How is Daxxify
different from other
neuromodulators?
One significant advantage of Daxxify is its prolonged effects. While Botox injections typically last for three months, Daxxify has been shown to maintain its results for up to six months and, in some cases, even up to nine months.
This was demonstrated in clinical trials that included 2,700 patients and 4,200 treatments. During these trials, 98% of patients reported little to no appearance of wrinkles one month after the injections. The effects were even more pronounced at six months, with half of the patients showing complete or near complete absence of wrinkles at the injection site.
What should I expect
during a Daxxify treatment?
A Daxxify treatment involves a series of injections of botulinum toxin into the muscles that cause wrinkles. The treatment is administered by one of our highly trained healthcare professionals who have a wealth of experience in cosmetic treatments.
Before providing the injection, one of our team members will clean the treatment area. The entire treatment typically takes about 10 to 20 minutes. After the treatment, we will provide instructions on caring for the treated area and when to expect the results.
What should I expect during Daxxify recovery?
During the recovery period after a Daxxify treatment, patients can expect mild side effects similar to those associated with other neuromodulator injections, such as Botox. These side effects may include:
- Pain or discomfort at the injection site: These are typically mild, rarely even requiring over-the-counter medication like Tylenol.
- Light bruising or swelling: These are also rare and typically mild, usually resolving within a few days.
- Redness or itching: In some cases, the injection sites may become irritated, but these symptoms are also generally very minimal and should resolve within a few hours.
Patients are advised to avoid massaging or rubbing the treated area, as it can cause the medication to spread to other areas, potentially causing unwanted effects. Also, they should avoid alcohol and strenuous physical activity for 24 hours after the treatment, as it can increase the risk of bleeding and swelling.
