PRP & PRF Microneedling
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) Microneedling Procedures at Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay
Microneedling with PRP or PRF offers a range of benefits for men and women who are seeking renewing or restorative aesthetic treatments. Jeffrey A. Hunt D.O., R.V.S., R.V.P.I. and the team at the Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay are dedicated to bringing state-of-the-art treatments to patients in the Tampa Bay, Florida area, and we are thrilled to offer innovative PRP & PRF microneedling procedures that harness the body’s natural healing process to provide effective rejuvenation.
What is PRP & PRF Microneedling and How Does It Work?
Human blood consists of several components, including platelet rich plasma (PRP) and platelet rich fibrin (PRF) which are full of growth factors that repair damage in the body. PRP and PRF have long been used in sports medicine, dentistry, and pain management to accelerate healing. In a PRP or PRF procedure, a medical professional utilizes the patient’s own PRP or PRF by administering a blood draw and then using a centrifuge to separate the blood components. At the Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay, we then use PRP or PRF in microneedling treatments that can treat hair loss, improve complexion or reverse the signs of aging. Microneedling uses tiny sterile needles to inject the PRP or PRF into a targeted area. This method is ideal because microneedling on it’s own has regenerative benefits.
What is the Difference Between PRP and PRF?
PRP and PRF are both derived from blood. PRP is separated at a higher centrifuge speed to allow the heavier blood components to separate from the lighter platelet rich plasma. To extract PRF, the centrifuge is spun at a lower speed which results in a platelet rich blood component that also contains fibrin, which promotes clotting. There are benefits to both PRP and PRF, and you can discuss your aesthetic goals during a consultation to determine which would best suit your needs.

PRP & PRF Microneedling for Hair Loss
PRP utilizes the regenerative potential of a patient’s own blood to stimulate hair growth. When these platelets are extracted and applied to hair follicles, they work to trigger hair regrowth. The body responds to the platelets immediately by activating dormant follicles, with optimal results six months after treatment. Many patients appreciate that the progressive results allow them to keep their treatment discreet as the hair gradually thickens. Usually 3 monthly treatments followed by maintenance treatments, once or twice a year may be recommended to maintain growth. Clinical studies have proven that PRP treatment for hair loss is effective with no negative side effects1.
Facial Rejuvenation with PRP & PRF Microneedling
PRP & PRF microneedling can smooth skin, reduce fine lines, and restore volume for a more youthful look. Once in the skin through microneedling, the PRP & PRF begins to produce growth factors, which rejuvenate the skin from the inside out, improving skin quality and texture while creating new collagen. At the Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay PRP & PRF microneedling can be used to treat:
- Deflated or hollowed cheeks
- Sunken areas beneath the eyes
- Smile lines (nasolabial folds)
- Volume loss around the mouth and chin
- Deep acne scars
