Dr. Jeffrey Hunt of Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay explains the benefits of innovative NovaThreads® for achieving youthful lift in areas of the face and neck.
Tampa Bay, FL – The recent FDA-approval of NovaThreads® has introduced both doctors and patients to an effective new option for non-surgical facial rejuvenation, explains Tampa cosmetic specialist Jeffrey A. Hunt, DO. As a physician offering a wide range of both non-invasive and minimally invasive cosmetic treatments at his practice, Dr. Hunt believes that NovaThreads® stands out as a worthwhile choice for many men and women who are looking to reduce the appearance of skin laxity. He says NovaThreads® is unique in that it can provide a customizable, physical lift to drooping skin along the neck and in several areas of the face.
With NovaThreads®, Dr. Hunt is able to control the placement, direction, and tension of the lift to deliver optimal results typically lasting between 18 and 24 months. Common cosmetic improvements he is able to achieve with NovaThreads® include:
- Restoring youthful elevation to the cheeks and mid-face
- Providing lift and support for a drooping brow line
- Smoothing jowls to define the jawline
- Lifting excess skin along the neck and below the chin
- Diminishing the prominence of nasolabial folds
One of the greatest benefits of NovaThreads® is that they can often be placed virtually painlessly using only topical anesthetic to numb the skin, adds Dr. Hunt. When asked to describe the procedure, he explains that different varieties of NovaThreads®, which are uniquely designed to achieve a range of cosmetic effects, are carefully inserted below the skin and looped in a “U” shape to apply a very specific degree of lift and tension to the treatment area. He goes on to illustrate that beneath the skin, NovaThreads® works to stimulates natural collagen production to hold the improvements in place as the threads are resorbed.
Dr. Hunt says the versatility and natural-looking results that NovaThreads® can provide make it a popular treatment among his patients. He encourages men and women who desire some of the effects of a facelift or neck lift, but are unwilling to undergo surgery, to consider NovaThreads® as a viable alternative treatment. He recommends that those interested in NovaThreads® follow through with a consultation to determine if the procedure is right for them.

Jaw popping, grinding, and clicking: these are common symptoms associated with TMJ Disorder, a condition that may affect as many as 10 million Americans. TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint and refers to the anatomical hinge that is responsible for the mouth’s ability to open and close. In some cases, this joint and the surrounding muscles can become dysfunctional and cause pain and discomfort, including serious headaches and migraines. There are many options for treating TMJ Disorder, but currently there is no cure. One of the best ways to manage the condition effectively and for the long term is with BOTOX® injections.
An injectable normally associated with the preservation of a youthful appearance, BOTOX® Cosmetic has several uses outside of aesthetic enhancement. The neurotoxin that makes up the formula is designed to limit the movement of overactive muscles. When administered to the muscles working alongside the TMJ, BOTOX® injections can help reduce involuntary contractions that often lead to grinding and clenching, as well as many other unwanted effects, without the need to wear an oral appliance every night as with some other popular treatments.
We will develop a customized treatment plan that may include a series of BOTOX® injections around the jaw to treat the masseter muscles. BOTOX® injections will typically provide relief for up to four months, after which you’ll be advised to return for follow up treatment to maintain the effects. With regular injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic can often help train your muscles to relax over time.
If you have additional questions about BOTOX® injections for TMJ Disorder, or if you wish to schedule a consultation, please contact us today.
ResurFX® is a fractionalized erbium laser that goes as deep as CO2 laser but it is nonablative, which means it bypasses your epidermis, your outer layer of skin and goes deep dermis and remodels from the inside out. Basically what it is doing is putting half a million laser spots on the face. It treats sun spots, age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles and boosts collagen, even remodels acne scars. With minimal downtime, people look lightly red like a sunburn for about three days. You will have a little bit of swelling around the eyes mainly but otherwise normal routine. We always tell everybody to treat your face like a sunburn for a few days, lots of moisturizer, lots of sunblock and you can treat every two weeks. Since ResurFX is a fractionalized erbium laser, it is only remodeling your deep dermis 20% at a time, hence a fractionalized laser, so it does take four treatments to remodel 100% of the deep dermis.

Photofacials are a great way to just improve the overall texture and appearance of skin and especially those people who have some sun damage. Photofacials are usually done about three weeks apart and most people do a series of three if it is pigmentation they wish to treat or if they have lots of vessels or rosacea. Most people do a series of five treatments. Photofacials are very safe. In over 6000 treatments that we have performed, we have not had any facial scaring from this procedure. We do recommend that you use sunscreen and not be extremely sun tanned when these procedures are performed as power can be increased and results will be better secondary to that.
With IPL® that is Intense Pulsed Light that is in the family of lasers but it is all light therapy. It is great for facial telangiectasias and generalized redness. It is treatment of choice for rosacea. It is also good for pigment of the face like sunspots and age spots and melasma. There is no downtime with the treatment. You look lightly pink. Most patients need between three and five treatments and you do them every three weeks.
We use the Lumenis One™ Intense Pulsed Light System for hair removal as it hurts less than some of the existing lasers and it is a very fast piece of equipment and we have extensive experience with using pulsed light as we helped bring that technology years ago to the US. We also have a device that they have adapted to our equipment called the serenity device that essentially takes 80 percent of the pain out of hair removal. This device has just recently been introduced and we think that it will be widely accepted as it will be adaptable to numerous laser systems, but this innovative technology right now will make hair removal a nonpainful procedure compared to procedures that have been offered in the past.
Looking great does not require surgery. There is a big paradigm shift right now in the cosmetic world of lot of patients who are doing facelift, spending $10,000 to $15,000 to pull the skin back tight, they realize you still look your age at sometime that is why procedures like Botox and fillers have become so popular. Particularly with fillers you can put volume back in the face where volume is lost in the aging face. You have got a great filler options like Restylane and Juvederm, those are both hyaluronic acid, they are natural sugars, they are polysaccharides, you cannot be allergic to them, and they are great for filling out tear troughs and filling in cheek, great around the nasolabial folds or smile lines and smoothen out vertical lip lines and putting natural volume back into the lips. The patients today have great options when it comes to facial fillers. You do have you temporary fillers like Juvederm and Restylane. You also have semi-permanent fillers like Sculptra. Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid, it is similar to absorbable sutures. It is great for filling in cheeks and nasolabial folds. It was actually FDA approved for AIDS patient who would like no atrophy. So you can cosmetically rebuild an entire face with it. One hundred percent people respond to poly-L-lactic acid and it will last you two to three years if not longer. Another great filler would be Radiesse, that is an ideal filler for cheeks and rebuilding the nasolabial fold, that type of filler will last you a little bit longer about a year to a year and a half. The chemical makeup is calcium hydroxylapatite, basically it stimulates your collagen production as well and gives a good foundation to the skin. This year there was an exciting breakthrough and a permanent implant filler with ArteFill, that type of filler is called PMMA – it is polymethylmethacrylate. It is in a purified bovine collagen carrier and it is considered a livable implant filler because it is constantly simulating your own collagen and it is only FDA approved for nasolabial folds, the smile lines, and this type of filler will last you five to seven years. The patients who are interested in longer lasting lip fillers do have the option to do Silikon 1000. With Silikon, it is ophthalmic grade. It is the same thing that the ophthalmologist use for detached retinas and you can use a microdroplet technique to rebuild the lips and basically what happens with Silikon is that they get capsulated by collagen and kind of embeds into the lip matrix and feels like normal natural lips.
