Beauty That Truly Extends “Outside of the Box”

Katie O’Donnell is six years old and lives in Tampa, Florida with her parents, 1 sister and 2 brothers.   At birth Katie was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, Aicardi syndrome. Earlier this year, Katie was granted a wish by the Make a Wish foundation, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Aicardi syndrome is a rare genetic disorder, one study estimates about 800 cases in the US.

Aicardi syndrome only affects females, and in very rare cases, males with Klinefelter syndrome (XXY). It is theorized to result from a defect on an x-chromosome.

Actress Brooke Shields and beauty expert to the stars Anastasia Soare will lead the campaign to generate $1 million to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The LATISSE® Wishes campaign was borne out of the tradition of blowing on an eyelash to make a wish come true and leverages the excitement surrounding the availability of Allergan’s LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03%, the first and only science-based prescription treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for hypotrichosis of the eyelashes (inadequate or not enough lashes) that is used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, fuller and darker.

Restylane

Often using creams and other anti-aging products just doesn’t cut it. Time can have a harsh effect on our appearance as the sun, gravity, and age take their toll. Many people are interested in getting non-surgical cosmetic procedures like Restylane® injections because they are less costly and less invasive.

Restylane® results vary depending on what the injections are used for. Restylane® injections improve the appearance of aged skin because they fill in fine lines, wrinkles and creases creating a fuller more youthful look. Retylane® injections can be used to plump the limps and fill in wrinkles on the forehead or fill in wrinkles around the eyes and mouth.

Restylane® is made of a naturally occurring substance within the human body called Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is used to create a cushion under the skin’s surface because it attracts moisture. Often as we age the level of hyaluronic acid in our body depletes and thus wrinkles and hollowing occur.

Restylane® injections are preferred to surgical procedures because they are non-invasive. In as few as 10 minutes patients can reap the benefits of Restylane® results. Many patients will initially experience a certain amount of swelling, redness, and tingling with their Restylane® injections. However, these side effects diminish very quickly and patients can resume normal activity immediately following their Restylane® treatments.

Like most cosmetic injectables, Restylane® results are not permanent. However, Restylane® results do last twice as long as most other cosmetic injectables of their type. Most patients who get Restylane® injections see their Restylane® results for at least five months but many see them for an entire year. Once the results from Restylane® injections begin to diminish patients can return for additional treatments.

About Sclerotherapy

People develop spider veins and varicose veins for a number of different reasons. Regardless of why spider veins appear people are not happy at their arrival. Many people think that they have to live with unsightly spider veins. However, a treatment called sclerotherapy can reduce or completely remove spider veins.

Sclerotherapy is a cosmetic procedure that treats the vessels and veins within the body. During sclerotherapy, a special medicine is injected into the veins that causes the unsightly veins to contract. This leads to a diminished appearance of spider veins and varicose veins.

Generally, sclerotherapy is not a very painful procedure. Most patients experience only mild discomfort from sclerotherapy treatment. This would include a mild to moderate burning sensation after the injection is made that disappears within in moments. However, it is not uncommon for patients to feel tenderness in the legs for a day or two following the procedure.

After a patient has sclerotherapy it may take an entire month to notice an improvement in the appearance of spider veins. In fact, most patients have repeat sclerotherapy treatments to achieve their desired results. On average patients will have sclerotherapy two to four times.

Sclerotherapy is one of the most effective ways to reduce the appearance of spider veins. The treatment has a 95 percent success rate. However, about 5 percent of the people who seek sclerotherapy to reduce spider veins will see little to no results. In these cases patients must seek alternative methods for spider vein and varicose vein removal.

Laser Vein Removal Overview

Visible veins lead some people to feel uncomfortable with their appearance, and cause others pain. Varicose veins are incredibly painful and are removed for medical reasons, and spider veins are considered to be unsightly by many people. Also, they can cause some discomfort. Because of that, people choose to get laser vein removal for both conditions.

For spider veins, the laser vein removal process is quite simple. The laser is used externally. The skin that contains the spider veins will have a laser shined on it, and then the veins will coagulate. After the coagulation, they will disappear. This is a very fast and easy way to remove spider veins.

Varicose veins are a more serious problem. Laser treatment for varicose veins is different than it is for spider veins. When treating varicose veins, the laser is actually pulsed into the vein. What then happens is the vein is sealed off and will eventually disappear.

For certain varicose veins, one treatment may not be enough. Some varicose veins are quite large, and can be stubborn in regards to the first or second treatment. When that is the case, multiple appointments will be made so the problem can be dealt with and the veins can be removed.

It is recommended that people who suffer from varicose veins get them removed. While it was difficult to do so at one time, it is now a quick procedure. Varicose veins can cause a lot of problems, and a plastic surgeon has the tools necessary to remove the veins.

While spider veins do not cause serious medical problems, they can lead to aching and swelling. Since they are easy to remove and many people find they feel better about themselves after the removal, many people choose to get them removed. Anyone who has veins they would like to remove with a laser can consult a doctor or plastic surgeon in order to find out what treatment is best for them.
