Benefits of NovaThreads®

model

Skin laxity is one of the key signs of facial aging. As the skin ages, youthful skin elasticity, thickness, and volume can diminish, causing skin and the deeper tissues to droop. FDA-approved NovaThreads® provides a non-surgical method for effectively counteracting skin laxity in many areas of the face and neck. NovaThreads® is an innovative, minimally invasive treatment that uses specialized dissolvable threads to provide customizable lift where it is needed. As an additional benefit, NovaThreads® stimulates the natural production of collagen fibers for results that can last approximately 18 to 24 months.

NovaThreads® can be used to:

  • Lift and smooth jowls
  • Elevate sagging cheeks
  • Reduce creases around the mouth and nose
  • Smooth and lift skin along the neck
  • Elevate a drooping brow line

Placing NovaThreads® is a relatively simple procedure performed with topical anesthetic to numb the skin during treatment. Our Medical Director Jeffrey A. Hunt, DO is extensively trained in NovaThreads® and can create an individualized treatment plan that meets your unique needs and goals. Often, patients choose to combine NovaThreads® with injectable treatments, like BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers, to treat additional wrinkles caused by overactive muscles and reduced volume.

If you are interested in learning more about NovaThreads®, we encourage you to contact our practice to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hunt.

Introducing KYBELLA™

kybella-woman-chinAt the Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay, we are committed to providing the most advanced treatment options available, and we are delighted to introduce KYBELLA™ as part of our comprehensive selection of non-surgical cosmetic enhancements! This minimally invasive injectable offers a revolutionary new way to address excess fatty tissue under the chin – an aesthetic concern commonly known as a “double chin.” Dr. Jeffrey Hunt, our experienced physician, and our registered nurses, Kristen Thornley, ARNP and Jamie Johnson, ARNP, will be performing this technique at our office.

Excess fat can accumulate as a result of many factors. For instance, some individuals have a genetic predisposition to store fat beneath the chin. Other people may not have the time or opportunity to exercise and eat right due to busy schedules or other difficulties. Certain medications and illnesses can also lead to area-specific weight gain. The fact is: patients of all ages and body types can experience this concern. In the past, surgical treatment was the only cosmetic option available. Today, KYBELLA™ makes it possible to melt away submental fat (fatty tissue under the chin) with minimal discomfort, little downtime, and long-lasting results.

KYBELLA™ can be performed in the comfort of our well-equipped office. Our experienced professionals will evaluate your areas of concern and discuss your cosmetic goals before developing a customized treatment plan. A series of injections will be administered to targeted regions of your chin. Afterwards, you may return home. We recommend you take a day or two off from work to rest after the procedure, or until you feel comfortable returning. Some swelling, tenderness, numbness, and bruising in the injection sites is normal; however, these effects should fade over the next few days. Gradually, your double chin should reduce in size, and you should enjoy natural-looking results and an improved facial contour.

For more information about KYBELLA™ and how this exciting technique can help you achieve your aesthetic goals, contact us today. We look forward to answering your questions or to helping you schedule a complimentary consultation.

Relieve TMJ Disorder Symptoms With BOTOX® Injections

shutterstock_93545170Jaw popping, grinding, and clicking: these are common symptoms associated with TMJ Disorder, a condition that may affect as many as 10 million Americans. TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint and refers to the anatomical hinge that is responsible for the mouth’s ability to open and close. In some cases, this joint and the surrounding muscles can become dysfunctional and cause pain and discomfort, including serious headaches and migraines. There are many options for treating TMJ Disorder, but currently there is no cure. One of the best ways to manage the condition effectively and for the long term is with BOTOX® injections.

An injectable normally associated with the preservation of a youthful appearance, BOTOX® Cosmetic has several uses outside of aesthetic enhancement. The neurotoxin that makes up the formula is designed to limit the movement of overactive muscles. When administered to the muscles working alongside the TMJ, BOTOX® injections can help reduce involuntary contractions that often lead to grinding and clenching, as well as many other unwanted effects, without the need to wear an oral appliance every night as with some other popular treatments.

We will develop a customized treatment plan that may include a series of BOTOX® injections around the jaw to treat the masseter muscles. BOTOX® injections will typically provide relief for up to four months, after which you’ll be advised to return for follow up treatment to maintain the effects. With regular injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic can often help train your muscles to relax over time.

If you have additional questions about BOTOX® injections for TMJ Disorder, or if you wish to schedule a consultation, please contact us today.

What to Expect From Levulan® Kerastick® and BLU-U® Treatments

Blu-UPDT – Photodynamic Therapy

Few Americans are subject to the same volume of ultraviolet (UV) rays as Floridians. Unfortunately, overexposure to these solar rays may lead to sun damage, including a skin condition known as actinic keratosis (AK). Also called solar keratosis, AK presents with dry, scaly, red or pink lesions that can potentially develop into skin cancer if left untreated. Fortunately, Levulan® Kerastick® and BLU-U® is an innovative treatment offered at our practice by Dr. Hunt that can often remove AK cells before they can become cancerous.

The Levulan® Kerastick® and BLU-U® treatment consists of two steps:

  1. Application of Levulan® Kerastick® topical solution
  2. BLU-U® photodynamic therapy

When you arrive for your first session, Dr. Hunt will uniformly apply the topical solution to affected areas on the face and scalp. The solution will generally make your skin photosensitive, so we recommend you avoid bright lights and sun exposure and wear protective clothing for at least 48 hours.

After a Levulan incubation period of 1-2 hours Dr. Hunt will then utilize the BLU-U® blue light illuminator, which is designed to cause a destructive reaction in AK cells treated with the topical solution, helping remove lesions. This is also the same procedure to help cystic acne by partially destroying the sebaceous oil gland.

You may feel a slight stinging or burning sensation during the brief treatment, but this will typically subside quickly. Other side effects may include swelling, itchiness, redness, or scaling, but these should also fade over time. As side effects diminish, many patients begin to see dramatic cosmetic improvement, though we encourage you to continue avoiding sun or bright light exposure in the treated areas for at least 48 hours after your initial treatment for best results.

For more information about treating actinic keratosis with Levulan® Kerastick® and BLU-U®, or if you wish to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hunt, please contact our office today.

PDT – Photodynamic Therapy

sunBenefits of Levulan® Kerastick® and BLU-U® for Treating Precancerous Lesions & Cystic Acne

One of the best reasons to live in Florida is the beautiful weather; however, year round sunshine also raises the risk of skin cancer. Actinic keratosis (AK), also known as solar keratosis, is caused by exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet (UV) rays. These red, scaly growths have a rough texture and may resemble warts or patches of dry raised spots on the skin. Typically located in sun-exposed areas such as the face, bare scalp, and hands, these lesions can evolve into squamous cell carcinoma—the second most common form of skin cancer—if left untreated. Removing AK cells before they develop into skin cancer should be a priority for everyone experiencing this condition.

Our practice offers a two-step technique for treating AK cells utilizing Levulan® Kerastick® and BLU-U® photodynamic therapy. This non-invasive, two-part system is designed to target and destroy AK lesions using a topical solution and blue light illumination. Benefits of Levulan® Kerastick® and BLU-U® include:

    1. No prescription medication to fill
    2. Non-invasive treatment
    3. Minimal downtime
    4. Typically no scarring
    5. Generally a 2 hour treatment process

As there is no way to determine which AK cells will eventually become cancerous, Levulan® Kerastick® and BLU-U® can often be an excellent method for reducing risk. Additionally, we always recommend patients use preventative measures such as wearing protective clothing and sunscreen to reduce their risk of developing skin cancer.

In addition to helping to treat sun damage, photodynamic therapy can typically reduce cystic acne by partially destroying the sebaceous gland and is an alternative to oral or topical antibiotics.

How Can I Prevent Excessive Sweating?

hair-removalIf you suffer from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), you have probably looked into a few different remedies. Perhaps you have tried BOTOX® injections to help reduce how much you sweat. Although these can be effective treatments, BOTOX® injections must be repeated after the effects begin to wear off; typically in nine months or less. If you want to reduce excessive sweating with longer-lasting results, Alma SweatX might be right for you.

At the Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay, Dr. Jeffrey Hunt offers Alma SweatX as a non-surgical treatment. Additionally, this unique new procedure can also be used to treat osmidrosis, which causes sweat to have a very strong, unpleasant odor. Using radiofrequency (RF) technology, Alma SweatX can specifically target the overactive glands that cause the effects of hyperhidrosis and osmidrosis without harming the surrounding, healthy tissue. Our patients have seen significant improvement for both conditions following treatment with Alma SweatX. Each treatment session is approximately 20 minutes, and should be repeated weekly. We typically recommend four sessions for optimal results.

We understand how embarrassing and upsetting it can be to live with hyperhidrosis or osmidrosis. We have seen incredible success with many of our patients, and hope we can help you, too!

If you think Alma SweatX might be able to help you, please contact us today to learn more, or to schedule a consultation. Dr. Hunt can help you determine if this treatment is right for you.

Florida Cosmetic Practice Is One Of First 20 In U.S. To Offer New Non-Surgical Fat Reduction Technique

Tampa skin care, Vanquish, fat reduction, Dr. Jeffrey Hunt

Dr. Jeffrey Hunt will be one of the first medical aesthetics practitioners in the United States to offer Vanquish: a fat reduction technique that removes fat without physical contact.

Tampa, FL – Dr. Jeffrey Hunt and his team of Tampa skin care professionals offer their patients expertise in vein treatments and non-surgical cosmetic treatments. The Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay’s latest acquisition is a system called Vanquish: one of the newest methods of non-surgical fat reduction available in the United States.

Dr. Hunt’s practice is one of the first 20 in the U.S. to receive the Vanquish device, and they will be the first practice to offer the procedure in Tampa. After first hearing about Vanquish nearly a year ago in discussions with Vanquish manufacturer BTL Aesthetics, Dr. Hunt says he is pleased to be part of the first group of cosmetic enhancement professionals in the nation to use the new fat reduction system. “We have been on the cutting edge of many new technologies and have been instrumental in improving treatment protocols,” says Dr. Hunt. In a recent blog post on his practice’s website, Dr. Hunt goes into more detail regarding Vanquish’s fat-reducing capabilities.

The Vanquish system, recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, was originally developed in the Czech Republic and is able to target fat cells utilizing selective radio-frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy. According to Dr. Hunt, Vanquish can “reduce pockets of fat in patients’ entire abdomen area, including the flanks (love handles), in just one treatment” without ever making physical contact with the patient’s body. Instead, “the thermal energy delivered by the device is absorbed by the body,” causing the targeted fat cells to be destroyed and then removed from the body through its natural processes.

Vanquish is able to cover a much larger treatment area compared to other non-surgical fat reduction techniques. Dr. Hunt says it is designed to be safe, well-tolerated, and to have zero downtime. The Vanquish system produces a sensation similar to a heating pad and never touches the patient’s skin. Typically with four 30-minute sessions spread over the course of one month, patients can lose one dress or pant size the following month—though Dr. Hunt says the initial results of the procedure can usually be seen after the first or second session. According to Dr. Hunt, BTL Aesthetics is currently working on more treatment heads for the Vanquish system to optimize results on other body areas of concern such as the thighs and arms.

Though Dr. Hunt is consistently looking toward the next innovation in the field and is proud to be one of the first practitioners in the country to offer Vanquish treatments, he says that one of his practice’s biggest advantages is having multiple technology platforms available for fat reduction. With a wider array of techniques at hand, Dr. Hunt says he is able to achieve optimal customized results for many of his fat reduction patients.

Vein and Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay Will Be One of the First Practices in the U.S. to Offer Vanquish, a New Non-Surgical Fat Reduction Technique

Vanquish is a newly developed system for touch-free, non-surgical fat reduction. The Vein and Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay has been selected as the FIRST in Tampa Bay, as well as one of the FIRST twenty facilities in the United States to receive and use this exciting new technology. Vanquish has recently been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. With this innovative new equipment, Dr. Jeffrey Hunt can help reduce pockets of fat in patients’ entire abdomen area, including flanks, in just one treatment!

Using newly developed selective radio-frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy, Vanquish targets fat cells without making any contact with the patient’s body. A multipolar focused field shapes the electromagnetic energy field to optimize penetration and maximize the impact of the treatment area. The system automatically tunes the circuitry, delivering the RF energy to the precise depth.

The thermal energy delivered by the device is absorbed by the body, creating a warm sensation. Skin and healthy tissues should not be harmed, while fat cells are destroyed. The affected fat cells are then gradually removed through the body’s natural processes. In initial studies, patients reported an average of two inches of total fat reduction, one month after completing four 30-minute treatments.

The fat reduction system, originally developed in the Czech Republic, is expected to be in very high demand once it hits the U.S. markets, and we are proud to be one of the first practices to be able to offer it to our patients.

If you are interested in being one of the first Americans to experience this incredible new technology, please contact the Vein and Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay for more information, or to pre-book an appointment.

Tampa Bay Cosmetic Enhancement Practice Offering Free Ultherapy Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation in New Facebook Contest

vein treatment, Vein and Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay's Facebook page, Ultherapy, vein specialist, Dr. Hunt

Dr. Jeffrey Hunt at Vein and Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay is now offering the new Ultherapy® non-surgical facial “uplift” treatment to reduce sagging, inelastic skin around the face, eyes, chin, and neck; The practice is currently part of a Facebook contest offering free Ultherapy® treatment for the winner.

Tampa, FL – Dr. Jeffrey Hunt and Vein and Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay, a practice specializing in a variety of vein treatment and cosmetic enhancement procedures, is offering patients an opportunity to receive a free, non-surgical facial “uplift” procedure known as Ultherapy® as part of a new Facebook contest. The practice recently added Ultherapy®, also known as Ulthera®, to its list of facial rejuvenation techniques, a treatment that utilizes ultrasound waves to improve collagen production and firm up sagging, inelastic skin in facial and neck areas.

Currently, the practice is working in conjunction with a promotion offered through Facebook by Ultherapy®. The company’s request is simple: mail in an old scarf for a chance to win “a new neck.” Those who are interested in entering the contest can find details on the Vein and Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay’s Facebook page. Winners of the giveaway will receive an Ultherapy® treatment worth up to $5,000, which will be performed at the Vein and Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay.

Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Ultherapy® utilizes ultrasound technology to allow physicians to treat the deepest support layers of the skin without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. According to Dr. Hunt, many of his patients wish to address common signs of aging by lifting, toning, and tightening their skin around their eyes, face, neck, and beneath the chin. He says Ultherapy® is designed to addresses these concerns without any incisions or injections. The treatment, which typically takes around 60-90 minutes to complete, allows patients to return to their daily lives without any post-procedure recovery time necessary, Dr. Hunt explains.

The vein specialist highlights that his Ultherapy® patients should begin to see the effects of Ultherapy® within the first few weeks with improvement continuing until optimal results are visible at 3 months. Dr. Hunt says Ultherapy®’s high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) waves heat the deep structural support layers of the skin, encouraging production of new collagen. This can gradually create stronger collagen and elastin to improve the skin’s firmness and elasticity.

With more than 100,000 Ultherapy® treatments performed worldwide, the procedure has become a popular option to treat mild or moderate skin laxity for patients seeking a non-surgical method of addressing their cosmetic concerns. Dr. Hunt notes that while the results of the treatment will not duplicate those of surgery, Ultherapy® —like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Exilis™ laser treatment, and Juvéderm™ dermal filler injections—can often be an effective way to rejuvenate a patient’s appearance without the necessity of surgery.

The Ultherapy® Facebook contest is currently running, and ends on August 31st, 2013.
