Available at our Tampa, Florida office, laser skin resurfacing is a method for diminishing the appearance of imperfections on the skin’s surface. What are the benefits of laser skin resurfacing?
By removing dead, unhealthy skin and exposing a softer and younger-looking complexion, laser skin resurfacing treatments have proven to be an effective method of reversing sun damage and other tell-tale signs of aging. With laser skin resurfacing, Dr. Jeffrey A. Hunt can reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines, as well as correct scars and skin irregularities. Though laser skin resurfacing is an outpatient procedure, some patients, depending on the laser, are treated with topical anesthesia to limit discomfort. Eyewear is used to protect the patient’s eyes. The length of the procedure ranges fifteen minutes to one hour, depending on the size of the treated area.
The recovery time for laser skin resurfacing patients varies depending on the type of laser used and aggressiveness of the treatment. However, there is generally no downtime associated with Harmony® or Fraxel® Re:store (Erbium 1550) laser treatments and patients can expect to return to their normal activities almost immediately after the procedure. Redness, swelling, and minor irritation sometimes develop, producing an overall sensation similar to mild sunburn; these effects usually last no longer than four or five days. A high-energy beam of laser light interacts with the skin’s surface causing the upper layer to peel off and regenerate a layer of new, healthy skin. Each laser pulse removes a deep column of tissue while simultaneously treating surrounding skin. This deep ablative heating causes immediate collagen contraction and long-term collagen remodeling. Recovery from CO2 Laser Treatment
Following CO2 laser treatment, some patients may experience swelling, redness, and peeling at the treatment areas which will usually subside within a week. Most patients are able to resume daily activities immediately after the treatment. Optimal results of the CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment start to appear within the first week, but best results will be most apparent after several months.

Fraxel® Re:store (Erbium 1550) Laser Skin Resurfacing
Fraxel® Re:store (Erbium 1550) laser skin resurfacing is relatively noninvasive compared to many other types of laser skin enhancement. The Fraxel® laser’s unique design allows Dr. Jeffrey A. Hunt to treat microscopically small treatment zones surrounded by untreated areas for very rapid healing and dramatic results. Early signs of aging – such as wrinkles, discolorations, and acne scars – can be corrected with Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing. As the treated area begins to heal, a layer of new skin appears, restoring a fresh, youthful complexion. After Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing, patients generally do not need any down time, and patients can return to their normal activities almost immediately after the procedure. Due to the precise nature of Fraxel® treatments, recovery time is short and relatively comfortable. Redness, swelling, and minor irritation similar to mild sunburn may develop, but these effects typically subside in just a few days. Sun exposure before and after treatment should be avoided and SPF 50+ should be worn daily.
Advantages of Fraxel® Re:store (Erbium 1550) Laser Skin Resurfacing
The biggest advantage of Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing over other facial rejuvenation options is the quick, comfortable recovery time. Chemical peels, which use mild acids to eliminate aesthetic flaws, involve the removal of skin. In contrast, no skin is removed during Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing. Instead, the laser energy passes through the epidermis, leaving surrounding skin unaffected. Harmony® Pixel Laser Skin Resurfacing
The Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay has added the NEW Harmony Pixel Platform to its grouping of cosmetic lasers.
