Laser Liposuction – Cool Lipo®

The Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay is proud to offer Cool Lipo® laser liposuction, a minimally invasive procedure that is designed to improve facial and body contours with minimal recovery time. Cool Lipo® can be performed on areas such as the chin, neck, jowls, or upper arms to remove excess fat deposits and tighten loose skin. Cool Lipo® is usually performed under local anesthesia, and treatment can often be completed in less than an hour.
To begin the procedure, an instrument known as a cannula is inserted into the targeted area. The cannula is equipped with a laser fiber that emits low-level energy and liquefies excess fat cells without harming surrounding tissues. As the laser is gently guided over the treatment area, fat deposits are eliminated, and new collagen production is stimulated. The latter will help skin become more toned even months after the procedure.

Cool Lipo® is often used in combination with an innovative new water-assisted liposuction technique called Body-Jet. This new system – available from Eclipsemed, Ltd and manufactured by Human Med – is designed to loosen the fat in the targeted area without essentially destroying the individual fat cells in the way that traditional liposuction works. Body-Jet allows for a less swollen mass in the area, less trauma to tissue and skin, and an overall more comfortable procedure for the patient. Body-Jet liposuction can even be performed under local anesthesia.
The Body-Jet system uses a new type of cannula and liposuction technique by simultaneously aspirating and irrigating the fatty tissue. Instead of destroying the fat, Body-Jet flushes it out without harming surrounding nerves, skin, muscle, and blood vessels.
Traditional vs. Body-Jet Liposuction
Body-Jet is also highly useful for fat harvesting, allowing the fat taken from the targeted area to be used for long-lasting facial rejuvenation such as lip enhancement or the filling in of lines and wrinkles.
Recovery from Body-Jet liposuction is often quicker than traditional liposuction, with less overall discomfort and a more rapid healing process.

VASER Liposuction
The VASER liposuction technique involves the insertion of a thin metal tube (cannula) into the areas targeted for fat removal. Body fat can be safely and successfully taken from the tummy area, arms, love handles, hips, chin – all the places that can be difficult to target and change even with exercise and diet. The cannula gently vibrates and puts out sound waves to melt or liquefy the fat cells. This technique melts fat without damaging blood vessels, nerves or surrounding tissue. VASER liposuction is often considered an advantage over traditional liposuction since it results in less bruising, less swelling, less pain and a quicker recovery.
Depending on the amount of fat being removed, liposuction typically takes anywhere from one to three hours to complete, and can be performed as an outpatient.
Recovery
Although there will be some bruising and swelling after VASER liposuction surgery, this treatment is known for causing less of it when compared with more traditional techniques, and therefore can lead to a reduced recovery time. Patients can expect the full recovery process to last about two weeks; however, since local anesthesia is used, most patients can return to work and resume normal activities the next day. A compression garment may need to be worn for a few weeks after the procedure in order to help the healing process.
